Box Score
GEORGETOWN, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (5-5) rallied for a 55-52 win at Southwestern University (2-7) on Monday.

Texas Wesleyan scored the first six points of the contest, but that would prove to be the largest lead of the game for the Lady Rams.  Southwestern scored the next six points to force the first of six ties in the half.  Late in the first period, a pair of Texas Wesleyan steals led to layups from Kashay Barnes and a 22-17 lead.  Southwestern hit a pair of free throws and ended the half with a three from Audrey Garcia that tied the game at 22.

Southwestern started the second half on a 15-5 run and continued to hold a double-figure advantage at 48-38 with 6:42 to play.  ToiEasha Cooper knocked in four points during an 8-0 Texas Wesleyan run that got the Rams right back in the game at 48-46 just under three minutes later.

With 2:20 on the clock, Amy Moody drained a huge three that put Texas Wesleyan back on top at 51-50.  Barnes then answered a Pirate layup with a basket that brought the score to 53-52 with 40 seconds remaining.  With 12 seconds to play, Cooper came up with a steal to force SU's 26th turnover of the game.  The Pirates had to foul, and Cooper was good for two at the free throw line to seal the 55-52 win.

Head coach Bill Franey praised his team's late-game execution.  "The girls played really well down the stretch," Franey commented.  "They made some clutch plays to secure this win."

Some salty Texas Wesleyan defense held Southwestern to 28.6% shooting from the field.  Meanwhile, the Rams scored over a third of their points off of turnovers.  The Rams forced 26 turnovers that led to 21 points.

Kayla McCray was the only Ram to reach double-figures in scoring with 11 points.    Barnes and Cooper each finished with nine.  Caitlin Boal added seven points and eight rebounds.

Southwestern was led by Jordan Owens' 18 points and 10 rebounds.

The Lady Rams are back in action on Tuesday, as they travel to Abilene, TX, for an exhibition contest against Abilene Christian University.  That game is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start.
