Mo Weathers scored a career high 30 points as the Rams defeated Paul Quinn College (9-13), 104-77 at the Sid Richardson Center on Thursday night. Weathers also had 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. The senior was just one assist shy from a triple-double, after posting a career-high nine assists in the game.
The Rams (14-11, 7-10 RRAC) pounced on the Tigers early on in the first half and never trailed in the contest. Back-to-back three-pointers from Weathers and
Oscar Griffin gave Texas Wesleyan an eight-point advantage at 13-5 with 13:47 on the clock.
Dallas Jones hit a jumper to give the Rams their first double-digit lead of the game at 24-14 with 9:22 remaining in the half.
Griffin came away with 21 points and two rebounds in the game. Jones also had a double-digit scoring night with 16 points. Jones was also second on the team in total rebounds in the win with six.
Myron Dempsey connected on a layup to cut the deficit for the Tigers to eight, but shortly after Weathers hit a long three to extend the game back into double-digits at 33-22 with 4:55 remaining before the half.
Seandre Sadler had a highlight dunk which electrified the crowd right before halftime at the 1:51 mark. Sadler had two points and two rebounds in the game. The Rams entered the half with a 14-point advantage over the Tigers at 46-32.
The Tigers started the second half by going on a 6-0 run in the opening minutes to cut the lead to eight. The Rams responded by going on an 8-0 run to push the lead out to 56-40 with 14:52 remaining. Texas Wesleyan led by as much as 20-plus points for much of the second period.
The Rams shot the ball 54.9 percent from the field and 59.4 percent from the free-throw line.
The win marks the second 100-plus scoring effort of the season for the Rams and also marks the 11
th straight win over the Tigers.
“I am proud of our effort,” said head coach Brennen Shingleton. “It’s good to see guys smiling again, but we need to get back to work and play a tough Langston team here on Saturday for homecoming.”
The Rams will host Langston University (9-14, 5-10 RRAC) on Saturday, February 9
th at the Sid Richardson Center for homecoming. Tip-off is set at 4:00 p.m.
