Kee to Victory, Golden Goal Lifts Lady Rams

FORT WORTH, TX:  A goal in the 99th minute from Lauren Kee lifted the Texas Wesleyan University Women's soccer team (8-4, 4-2 SAC) to a 1-0 win over Sooner Athletic Conference foe Wayland Baptist University (4-8-2, 4-2-1 SAC) at Martin Field on Tuesday.

The Lady Rams had several dangerous corner kicks in the first half, but could not elude the Pioneer defense.  Texas Wesleyan led 12-9 in shots and 3-1 in corner kicks in the first period.

Kee just missed a goal in the 61st minute.  Alexis Michaelkovich took a throw from the near sideline that found Kee's head, but the ball hit the post and bounced out.  The Lady Rams continued to dominate the shot count at 23-12 through 90 minutes; however the shot on goal tally was just 7-5.

Goalkeepers Nikki Lockwood (TWU) and Bailey Stengler (WBU) were up to the task and the scoreless contest moved into overtime.

Less than a minute into the extra period, Wayland's Tori Nimitz found Heather Terbush for a header in the box that Lockwood was just able to turn away.   The Lady Rams recovered from that scare and set the table for Kee's heroics which came with just 1:48 to play in the first overtime period.

"Just an incredible game for both teams from start to finish tonight," commented head coach Josh Gibbs.  "Shiloh always does a great job with his team.  They are organized, hardworking, and dangerous.  Tonight was no different.  It's a shame someone had to lose such a great game."

For the game, the Rams led 25-14 in shots, while Wayland Baptist led 4-3 in corner kicks.  Lockwood (8-4) made six saves in the win.  Stengler made eight stops for the Pioneers.

"I was very proud of my team," Gibbs continued.  "They gave a maximum effort and then some.  They believed they would win from the opening whistle and made it happen against a very tough opponent.  I can't describe how proud I am of these young women other than that I am lucky to be their coach.  It's a great honor."

The Lady Rams will return to action on Saturday, when they travel to Siloam Springs, AR, to take on John Brown University.  That SAC game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start.
