WAXAHACHIE, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men's soccer team (7-6-3, 5-3-1 SAC) took a 2-0 win at Southwestern Assemblies of God University (5-10-2, 1-8 SAC) in their regular season finale.
With the win, the Rams moved into a three-way tie for third in the SAC standings with Southwestern Christian and Wayland Baptist. The Rams will be the fifth seed in next week's tournament as both SCU and WBU hold a head-to-head tiebreaker with Texas Wesleyan. The Rams will travel to either SCU or WBU on Saturday, November 8.
At SAGU, the Rams had little trouble with the Rams. Texas Wesleyan outshot SAGU 11-4 for the game and 6-2 in the first half.
Brandon Head got the Rams on the board with a goal off a dual assist from
Alejandro Rey and
Drake Trease.
Meanwhile, the defensive line allowed just one shot on goal in the contest and
Arturo Sanchez was there to make the save.
Rey scored in the 86th minute on an assist from Trease to put the game out of reach at 2-0.
Sanchez needed just the one save to secure his second shutout of the season. SAGU's Cesar Espana made three saves in the loss.
