No. 16 MACU Tops TWU

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK:  The Texas Wesleyan University men's basketball team (12-9, 6-6 SAC) came up on the short end of a 92-80 score at No. 16 Mid-America Christian University (13-5, 9-3 SAC) on Saturday.
 
All five Texas Wesleyan starters scored in double-figures, but it was not enough to overcome a very tough shooting performance in the first half.
 
MACU outshot the Rams 51%-30% in the opening frame, while the Rams went 0-for-14 from long range.  The Evangels opened up a 20-point lead at 36-16 on their way to a healthy 53-32 lead at the break.
 
The Rams righted the ship in the second half, but the damage had been done.  Texas Wesleyan scored the first eight points of the second half, but could never get closer than 11.  In the period, the Rams outshot the Evangels 52%-30% from the floor, including 44% (4-9) – 21% (3-14) from long range.
 
In the game, MACU outshot TWU 42%-39%.  The Rams dominated the glass 55-42 and the paint, 44-24, but MACU hit 12-of-34 three-point attempts while TWU hit just 4-of-23.
 
Kenny Rhymes turned in a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds.  Rilwan Bakare scored a team-high 19 points, while Deonte Jones finished with 18.  Jorge Redmon notched 11 points, and Dallas Jones posted 10 points and nine rebounds.
 
Reggie Davis led the Evangels with 22 points.  Semar Farris came off the MACU bench to add 17 points to the victory.
 
The Rams will return to action on Tuesday, when they break from Sooner Athletic Conference play to host Arlington Baptist College.  That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start in the Sid Richardson Center.
