Box Score HOUSTON, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men's soccer team (2-2-1) battled No. 20 University of St. Thomas-Houston (0-2-1) to a 1-1 draw on Thursday.
Brandon Head scored his second goal of the season off an assist from
Drake Trease in the 34th minute, as the Rams outshot the Celts 7-4 in the opening period. UST's Oscar Zamudio tied the game with a goal off an assist from Luis Mendoza in the 67th minute. Through two overtime periods, neither team could find the game-winner.
Arturo Sanchez (1-2-1) minded the net for all 110 minutes for Texas Wesleyan, coming up with four saves. Meanwhile Jason Taffet made five stops for UST.
For the game, the Rams outshot the Celts 15-12 including a 6-5 count in shots on goal. Corner kicks were nearly even with Texas Wesleyan taking four and UST five. The Rams were whistled for 13 fouls to St. Thomas' seven; however, the Celts were shown five yellow cards while the Rams received two.
The Rams will continue action at the St. Thomas Tournament on Friday, taking on UT-Brownsville at 5:00 p.m.
