SHAWNEE, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University men's soccer team (3-4-2, 1-1 SAC) netted three game-tying goals to force overtime before falling 4-3 in Sooner Athletic Conference play at Oklahoma Baptist University (4-5, 1-0 SAC) on Tuesday.
The Bison scored first with a goal from Kervy Robles just over ten minutes in; however, sophomore
Brandon Head and junior
Drake Trease always had an answer for the Bison.
Trease hit Head for a score in the 33rd minute, but OBU's Jonathan Martinez found Vicente Castillo for the go-ahead goal just 24 seconds later.
The Rams never gave up, and Head scored another game-tying goal just before the half. Both Head and Trease were tagged with yellow cards in the first half. Trease's caution came just seconds before the intermission, and the duo had to tread lightly from then on.
The Bison scored in the 68th minute, but Head assisted Trease in the 71st minute to knot the game at 3-3. Unfortunately for the Rams, the game rolled into overtime where answering was no longer an option. OBU's Pablo Garcia, who had two assists in regulation, found the net just 1:41 into the first overtime period to deliver a win for the Bison.
The game was very evenly played statistically. The Rams outshot the Bison 19-16 while the Bison held a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal. The Rams took nine corner kicks to the Bison's six. OBU was whistled for 15 fouls and shown two yellow cards. Texas Wesleyan committed 10 fouls and received three cards.
The Rams will return to action on October 11, when they travel to Bethany, OK, to take on Southwestern Christian University in another SAC contest. That game is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start.
