SHAWNEE, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University women's soccer team (5-2, 2-0 SAC) earned a third straight win and moved to 2-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference play with a 2-1 win at Oklahoma Baptist University (5-4, 0-1 SAC) on Tuesday.
Junior forward
Kaitlin Bush got the Rams started on the right foot with a goal just 7:33 into the game on an assist from
Shrareh Asadi.
In the 39th minute, Bush struck again to push the score to 2-0.
OBU's Lauren Lartigue snagged some momentum going into the break when she scored with 3:16 on the clock.
Nikki Lockwood (5-2) was up to the task however. Lockwood made four saves in the second half while turning away six of the Bison's seven shots on target in the game.
For the game, the Bison outshot the Rams 19-10 and 7-3 on goal. OBU also took seven corner kicks while the Rams were slowed by a 12-7 foul count.
"This was a great team win against a very talented OBU side," said head coach Josh Gibbs. "Being without
Alexis [Michaelkovich],
Bina [Obidinski], and
Kat [Bynum] was tough for us, but the players really fought hard for each other tonight. It wasn't the prettiest win, but a huge win for us on the road."
The Lady Rams will return to action on Saturday, when they travel to Texarkana, TX, to take on Texas A&M-Texarkana in their final non-conference tilt of the season. That game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start.
