Lady Rams Stay Golden Against John Brown

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (11-5, 3-2 SAC) picked up a 69-59 win over John Brown University (6-10, 2-3 SAC) at the Sid Richardson Center on Thursday.
 
The Lady Rams ripped off an 8-0 run to start the game capped by Katelynn Threats jumper, but the Golden Eagles answered with an 8-0 run to tie the game. Texas Wesleyan replied with a 6-0 run capped by an Amy Easley shot from downtown to make it a 14-8 lead. Wesleyan controlled the game from that point, and pushed the lead to a 17-point, 39-22 on a Carneisha Sims mid-range jump shot. TWU took a 39-24 lead into the break.
 
Texas Wesleyan Rams shot 50 percent from the field in the first half, while JBU shot only 36 percent. The Lady Rams did an excellent job of forcing 11 John Brown turnovers, turning it into 14 points on the offensive end. The Rams also outscored the Golden Eagles 9-0 on fast break opportunities.
 
The Lady Rams burst out to another 8-0 run to start the second half, capped by a Stacey Darnley three pointer to make it 47-27 with 17:15 remaining in the game. An Easley floater with 12:18 left in the contest gave Wesleyan a 53-32 lead, the biggest of the night. The Golden Eagles kept fighting and did not take a second off, taking a 10-1 rally to cut the lead to 60-52 with less than five minutes to go. The Lady Rams held off the charge though, and coasted to a 69-59 win.
 
The Lady Rams finished the game shooting 43 percent from the field, and 39 percent from behind the arc. Wesleyan out-rebounded the Golden Eagles 36-30. John Brown just could not keep control of the ball, as Wesleyan tallied 14 steals and forced 22 turnovers.
 
Easley led the Lady Rams with 18 points, adding six assists. Darnley posted 13 points in the win. Threats tallied 11 points and nine boards on the night.
 
The Lady Rams will travel to Shawnee, OK to play St. Gregory's University on Saturday, January 17 starting at 3:00 pm.
