CHICKASHA, OK: The University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma women's soccer team (8-4-2, 6-0 SAC) remained unbeaten atop the Sooner Athletic Conference standings after a late PK gave the Drovers a narrow 3-2 win over Texas Wesleyan University (8-4-1, 3-2-1 SAC) on Tuesday.
The Drovers racked up 24 shots in the game while limiting the Rams to only 10. While the Rams were unable to slow the USAO attack,
Nikki Lockwood came up with a career-high 14 saves to keep the Rams close.
Texas Wesleyan struck first when
Kailene Allis found
Shrareh Asadi for a strike left of the goal just 2:26 into the game. The Drovers were unable to break through until the 32nd minute when Shay Nash scored on an assist from Ryah Vyse. Just 3:11 later, Vyse put her head on a corner kick from Rhianna Brewster and the Drovers led 2-1 at the break.
In the 61st minute, the Rams made a corner kick count, when
Sabina Obidinski knocked in her 3rd goal of the season.
In the 70th minute, the Drovers were awarded a penalty kick after a Texas Wesleyan foul, and Vyse sent in the game-winner.
For the game, USAO led 5-4 in corner kicks, 7-2 in fouls and 17-5 in shots on goal.
The Rams will return to action on Saturday, when they travel to Oklahoma City, to take on Oklahoma City University. That game is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start.
Ramblings
- The Rams are now 14-8-3 all-time in SAC play. USAO leads the all-time series 7-3-1 while Oklahoma City leads the Rams 11-5.
- This was Texas Wesleyan first loss when scoring more than one goal since September 11, when they were defeated 5-3 against the University of Houston-Victoria.
- Lockwood's previous career-high was 10 saves in a 2-0 win over Lubbock Christian on September 21, 2013.
- Vyse entered the game ranked 6th in the SAC with 10 goals on the season.
- The Rams are now 2-3 on the road this season. After Saturday's game at OCU they will close the regular season with a pair of contests at Martin Field where they are 6-1-1 on the year.
