OKLAHOMA CITY, OK: The Oklahoma City University women's soccer team (10-3-1, 6-0-1 SAC) used a hat trick from Ailee Thompson to post a 3-0 win over Texas Wesleyan University (8-5-1, 3-3-1 SAC) in Sooner Athletic Conference action on Saturday.
With the win, the Stars remained unbeaten in SAC play as they march toward a showdown with unbeaten University of Science & Arts in the regular season finale next weekend.
The loss marked the first time that Texas Wesleyan has dropped consecutive contests this season.
On Saturday, the Stars had a narrow 16-14 advantage in shots (8-5 on goal). OCU led 4-3 in corner kicks and battled a 14-3 foul count; however Ailee Thompson was the difference in the game.
Thompson, a senior from Oklahoma City, staked the Stars to an early lead when the Stars were awarded a penalty kick just 4:02 in, and she made it count. The SAC's leading goal scorer struck again in the 27th minute to give OCU a 2-0 first half advantage. Thompson completed her hat trick in the 57th minute giving her an impressive 16 goals on the year and widening her lead in the SAC in that category.
Nikki Lockwood (8-4-1) made 5 saves in the net for the Rams, while Kirsten Thomas (9-3-1) did the same for the Stars.
The Rams have two more regular season games left on the docket, both at home next week. They will host John Brown University on Thursday and Bacone College on Saturday.
Ramblings
- The Rams had not lost back-to-back games since October 11 & 14 last season against Mid-America Christian and Science & Arts. The team has not lost three in a row since September of 2012.
- The Rams are 14-9-3 all-time in SAC play. Oklahoma City leads the all-time series 12-5. The Rams trail John Brown 1-4-1 in the all-time series.
- The Rams went 2-4 this season in road games. They are 6-1-1 at Martin Field with two regular season games to play.
- This was the third time this season that the Rams have been shutout. They have held their opponents scoreless four times.
