FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men's soccer team (8-7-1, 2-5-1 SAC) took a narrow 2-1 loss against John Brown University (11-5-1, 7-1 SAC) at Martin Field on Thursday.
The Eagles outshot the Rams 11-4 in the first half, but
Alexis Yanez made five saves in the period to hold the score to 1-0. The lone goal of the frame came in the 39th minute when Collin Smith found the Net.
In the 60th minute, Kelvin Omondi gave JBU a cushion when he netted his fourth goal of the season off an assist from Smith.
The Rams finally put together an offensive flurry in the final 20 minutes of the contest. In the 76th minute,
Shaun Miltner converted an
Alex Ellis corner kick into a goal to draw the Rams within one. A shot by
Ross McArthur with 1:18 remaining nearly forced overtime, but the attempt sailed just wide.
Britt Wisener (1-0) made two saves in the win, while
Alexis Yanez (0-3) made five saves in the loss.
For the game, the Eagles outshot the Rams 16-12 and led 7-3 in shots on goal.
The Rams will return to action on Halloween when they host Bacone College in their final regular season home game. Senior Day festivities will precede a scheduled 3:00 p.m. kickoff.
