FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's soccer team (9-6-1, 4-4-1 SAC) closed the regular season with a convincing 6-1 win over Bacone College (1-10, 0-9 SAC) at Martin Field on Halloween.
Prior to kickoff, the Rams honored three seniors who played their final regular season game at Martin Field.
Kaitlin Bush,
Sabina Obidinski, and
Shrareh Asadi have led the Rams to 44 wins in the last four years and a winning percentage of .662.
Lauren Marquez got the Rams started when she collected a rebound and put the ball in the back of the net in the 7th minute. Junior
Theresa Garsztecki then ensured a happy Senior Day by ripping off three straight goals in the 15th, 33rd, and 35th minutes.
Bacone caught the Rams napping after Garsztecki completed her hat-trick, and Barai Demi got the Warriors on the board just 10 seconds later.
Texas Wesleyan tacked on a Marquez goal assisted by
Samantha Moore in the 53rd minute. Moore then capped the scoring with an assist to
Rawan Ashrawi in the 77th minute.
The Rams dominated the game to the tune of a 28-7 shot count and a 10-0 edge in corner kicks.
Nikki Lockwood (9-5-1) needed just three saves to earn the win. BC's Ashley Smith made 15 saves against Texas Wesleyan's barrage of 21 shots on goal.
"That's a good way to celebrate three great student-athletes," head coach
Josh Gibbs said after the game. "These three are very special to me. Bina and Shrareh both played club for me. So, we go way back. It's a bittersweet day. It was great to honor three young women that have served this program so passionately. It is really tough to see them at the end of their run, but I think they should be proud of their time here. I'm incredibly proud of them for what they've meant to the program and to me personally."
The Lady Rams' work is not yet done. They will enter the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament as the 6th seed, and will open with a quarterfinal game at 3rd seeded John Brown (11-6-1, 7-1-1 SAC) on Saturday, November 7.
