MIAMI, FL: The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (4-6) picked up an 87-73 win over Florida Memorial University (2-8) at the Wildcat Center on Tuesday.
Â
The Lady Rams got out to an 8-2 lead with a
Leila Jdily-Ezzad jumper. The Rams extended the lead to 19-9 with a
Breanna Burton two-pointer later in the quarter. The two teams went over two minutes without a score and ended the first quarter at 19-9.
Â
Katelynn Threats nailed a shot to make it a 23-9 contest at the beginning of the second quarter. The Lions posted a comeback and a Shelby Miller triple cut the lead to 34-30 before the end of the half.
Â
Falesha Fuller put in a bucket to start the second half to keep the Wesleyan lead at 36-30. Florida Memorial made a short run and a Diamond Colebrook three-pointer made it a three-point, 40-37 game. The Lady Rams rev'd up the offense and
Onyesonam Nolisa drove through lane and put in an old fashion three-point play on a successful and-1 play to extend the lead back out to 50-39. Burton followed that with a swish from downtown and Texas Wesleyan kept a big lead into the fourth quarter.
Â
Jdily-Ezzad made it a 21 point game three minutes into the quarter, their largest of the night. The Rams hit the cruise control button from there, taking an 87-73 win. The Rams shot a balmy 54 percent from the field, while the Lions shot 39 percent from the field. TWU also won the rebound battle at 31-29.
