Rams Down Drovers

CHICKASHA, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (16-8, 7-5 SAC) picked up a 75-50 win over the University of Science & Arts (OK) (6-14, 3-9 SAC) at USAO Fieldhouse on Saturday.
 
The Drovers posted a 7-0 run to start the game capped by a three-point play by Mahogany Nelms. The Rams got a three pointer from Stacey Darnley, but USAO continued to push the lead to 17-5. Texas Wesleyan used a 9-0 rally capped by a Cheyenne Swoopes bucket to cut the lead to 17-14 with 12:45 left in the first half.
 
The Lady Rams shifted the momentum in their favor and took a 20-19 lead on an Onyesonam Nolisa layup. The two teams were deadlocked at 26-26 when Carneisha Sims got a layup to go to keep the Rams in front. Wesleyan ended the half with a 6-0 run capped by Swoopes jumper to grab a 38-28 at halftime.
 
Texas Wesleyan got off to a slow start, but ended up outshooting their opponent from the field, 43 percent to 31 percent. The Rams edged the Drovers 12-5 in points off the bench and 13-4 in points off turnovers.
 
The Lady Rams took complete control of the game in the second half, extending the run from the end of the first half to cap a massive 21-0 rally with an Amy Easley triple to take a commanding 53-28 advantage.  Katlynn Threats put in a jumper for a 28-point lead with 12:32 remaining in the contest. Caitlin Boal made it a 30-point, 69-39 lead at the 3:40 mark, the biggest lead of the night. The Lady Rams cruised the rest of the way with a 75-50 win.  
 
TWU was a force in the paint all night, outscoring the Drovers 42-22 in the category. The Rams shot 46 percent from the field, while the Drovers shot 29 percent. Wesleyan edged their opponent in rebounds, 47-45. The Lady Rams turned a 12-point deficit into a 30-point lead and led the contest for over 29 minutes of game time.
 
Sims had a breakout game, leading the Lady Rams with 18 points. Caitlin Boal notched 13 points. Darnley tallied 13 points in the win.
 
The Lady Rams will come home for a meeting with St. Gregory's University on Thursday, February 12. That game is set for a 6:00 pm tip-off at the Sid Richardson Center.
