CHICKASHA, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (13-11, 5-1 SAC) took a 3-1 win in the opener of a three-game Sooner Athletic Conference series at the University of Science & Arts (14-12, 3-6 SAC) on Saturday.
This series was originally scheduled to be played in Fort Worth, but wet weather in North Texas changed the venue to Chickasha.
The Rams jumped ahead in the top of the second when
Rod Lewis walked and scored on a double from
Garrett Crook.
Dusteyn Suttle then knocked in a run with a single to give
Ben Russell a 2-0 cushion.
The Drovers got one run back in the bottom of the second when Blake Scannell followed a Cesar Figuereo single with an RBI double.
After Owen Adams led off the fourth inning with a single, Russell and
Mitch McLeod combined to allow only one more base-runner in the contest. That was a walk to Isaac Rodriguez in the seventh that was immediately erased with a groundball double-play.
Quavian Lawson walked in the eighth inning and scored on a double from
Jose Martinez to cap the scoring at 3-1.
Russell received no decision after allowing one run on four hits while striking out one in the four innings of work. McLeod (3-3) worked the final five innings and allowed no runs and struck out four including all three batters he faced in the ninth.
Allan Sanchez (3-3) took the loss after allowing three runs on six hits while striking out seven in eight innings pitched.
Crook led the Rams at the plate by going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI while the Rams outhit the Drovers 7-4.
Texas Wesleyan and USAO will complete their three-game series with a doubleheader on Sunday. Game one is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start.

- The Rams are 3-2 all-time against USAO and 20-13 all-time in SAC play.
