Lady Rams Slip At SGU

SHAWNEE, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (11-11, 3-3 SAC) suffered a pair of 6-1 setbacks against St. Gregory's University (19-3, 6-2 SAC) at SGU Softball Field on Saturday.

In the first game the Lady Rams left six runners on base and could not establish any rallies after being held to only seven hits.

Dani West slapped a ball up the middle for a base hit to lead off the game and swiped second to put a runner in scoring position. Chelsea Anderson put the Rams on top with a RBI single to right field for a 1-0 advantage.

The score remained that way until the Cavaliers tied the game in the bottom Melanie Gladden hit a RBI single to left-center that evened the score after three innings. The Cavaliers added a pair of runs in the fifth, while a trio runs crossed the plate in the sixth. That fueled St. Gregory's to a 6-1 win.

West went 2 for 4, Anderson went 1 for 3 with a RBI, and Marisol Gomez went 1 for 2 with a walk in the loss.

Texas Wesleyan again found an early lead in game two, starting with a with back to back walks that led to an Aizia Azarcon RBI single up the middle for a 1-0 edge.

The Cavaliers came right back and tied the game in the bottom half of the inning after an error led to an Ashli Hafford RBI single to left field to make it a 1-1 game early.

It was all St. Gregory's from there as the Cavs earned a two run second inning to take the lead, adding a run in the third and a pair in the fifth to take the second game by a score of 6-1.
The Cavaliers took advantage of Lady Ram errors in both games, while playing mistake free defense on their home dirt. Six Ram errors led to four unearned runs for the Cavs, while solid pitching kept Wesleyan off the base paths.

The Lady Rams will stay on the road with a double header in Chickasha, OK when they take on the University of Science and Arts on Friday, April 3 starting at 2:00 pm.
