Lady Rams Fall To Eagles

BETHANY, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (14-16, 6-8 SAC) lost a 3-2 extra innings battle before falling 6-2 against Southwestern Christian University (11-17, 5-9 SAC) at SCU Softball Field on Friday

The Lady Rams worked out of a first inning jam in game one. After surrendering a pair of singles, Lauren Wernet tallied back-to-back strikeouts to keep the game scoreless.

Wesleyan took the lead in the second starting with a Southwestern Christian error that allowed Chelsea Anderson to reach base. Kayla Prachyl fired a ball to right for a RBI double. Lauren Davis followed suit with another RBI double to give the Rams an early 2-0 lead.

The Eagles cut the lead in the bottom of third with a Lady Ram error that led to a Charity Robinson RBI double to left field. That made a 2-1 game.

Texas Wesleyan held off the home team until the bottom of the seventh, when Jessica Orozco led off the inning with a home run over the left field fence. The Lady Rams stopped any makings of a rally though, and sent the game into extra innings.

The Lady Rams loaded the bases in the eighth, but came away empty handed. In the bottom of the eighth, the Eagles scored the winning run on a wild pitch to take the game 3-2 in extra innings.

Wernet fought hard but suffered the loss. She threw 7.1 innings, gave up three runs on nine hits with five strikeouts.

Prachyl went 2 for 3 with a run batted in. Davis and Anderson went 1 for 4 in the game.

The Eagles charged out of the gate in the game two, tacking on two runs in the first inning. Southwestern Christian added three more runs in the third and another in the fifth to take a stout 6-0 lead.

The Lady Rams got on the board in the sixth inning. Amber Tucker beat out an infield single to third base to start the inning. Prachyl knocked in a run with a base hit to center field. Samantha Bastien doubled to left to plate the second run, but the Lady Rams could not complete the comeback, falling 6-2.

Tucker went 3 for 4. Courtney Kelley went 1 for 2 with a walk in the game.

The Lady Rams will take on top ranked Oklahoma City University tomorrow starting at 1:00 pm.
