Lady Rams Fall To Lady Bison

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (14-22, 6-14 SAC) slipped to Oklahoma Baptist University (14-22, 8-7 SAC) in a double header (11-7, 9-2) at Sycamore Park on Friday.

The Lady Bison jumped on top early with a two out rally in the first. OBU tacked on three consecutive hits capped by a Hannah Morris three-run home run to left center.

Texas Wesleyan played some small ball to put a run on the board in the second inning. Amber Marlett worked the count to earn a lead-off walk, before Lauren Davis moved the runner to third base on a double to deep left field. Aizia Azarcon lifted a high fly ball deep enough into center to score a run on a sacrifice fly to make it a 4-1 ball game.

The Bison added three more runs in the fourth inning. Caitlin Hall batted in a pair on a double to left center before Morris hit a sacrifice fly to right to make it a 7-1 lead after three and a half innings.

The Lady Rams got a run back in the bottom of the fourth on a Haley Neill RBI single into right center field. An Oklahoma Baptist error led to run and kept the inning alive for a Kayla Prachyl two RBI single to right center. The four run inning cut the lead to 7-5, OBU.

Oklahoma Baptist kept scoring, and padded the lead with four more runs to make it an 11-5 advantage.

Wesleyan came charging back in the bottom of the seventh, starting with a Lauren Gunter home run to left center. Marlett followed that with a home run slam over the center field fence. The Rams earned two more hits in the inning, but were unable to make a comeback dropping the game 11-7.

Prachyl went 1 for 3 with two RBI. Marlett went 2 for 3 with a RBI and two runs scored. Azarcon went 2 for 3 in the loss

The Bison repeated the events of the first inning of the first game almost to the detail. Morris hit another shot over the fence with two on to give OBU another early 3-0 lead.

Oklahoma Baptist added three more runs before the Lady Rams got on the board in the sixth inning. Gunter hit one to the gap in left center for a double before Marlett blasted a shot over the left field fence to make it a 6-2 game with an inning to play.

The bats stayed hot for the Lady Bison, adding a trio of runs on three hits in the seventh to secure a 9-2 win.

Marlett continued on her hot streak going 2 for 3 with a pair of RBI. West went 2 for 4. Gunter and Anderson both went 1 for 3 in the game.
