Lady Rams Soar Past Eagles

BURLESON, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (16-24, 8-16 SAC) notched a pair of wins (8-1, 7-2) over Southwestern Christian University (11-25, 5-17 SAC) at Centennial HS Lady Spartan Field on Wednesday.
 
The Lady Rams posted a run in the first inning, after a Kayla Prachyl lead-off base hit led to a Lauren Gunter sacrifice fly to make an early 1-0 lead.
 
Chelsea Anderson helped the cause with a no doubter over the left center wall to make a 2-0 lead after two innings of play.
 
Wesleyan added a run in the third after smart base running from pinch runner Demi Dotson led to a Lauren Wernet  RBI sacrifice hit for a 3-0 cushion.
 
The Wesleyan bats exploded with a four run fourth, starting with an Amber Tucker RBI single to shallow center field. The Rams executed a successful double steal play to plate the second run of the inning. Gunter capped the inning with a two run home run down the left field line to give the Lady Rams a commanding 7-0 lead.
 
Southwestern Christian got a run back in the top of the fourth. Jazmine Koerner worked the count and reached base on a walk before swiping second to put herself into scoring position. Michaela Arington drove a shot into straight away center field, deep enough to score the runner to make it a 7-1 game
 
Wernet drove in another run in the sixth inning after Gunter led off the inning with a triple to left center field. That would run the score to an 8-1 Ram advantage.
 
Amanda Windham (5-9) picked up the win. She tossed all seven innings, allowed only one run on two hits, walked three and sat down three. Gunter went 3 for 3 with three RBI. Marlett went 2 for 3, while Wernet went 1 for 2 with two RBI. Anderson went 1 for 3 with a RBI in the win.
 
The Lady Rams wasted no time in game two, putting up a three spot on the Eagles in the bottom of the first. Tucker and Marlett reached on singles before Gunter drove both in with a double to right center. Wernet made it a 3-0 lead on a fielder's choice RBI to cap the inning.
 
The Eagles got a run back in the third and fourth innings after a pair of Lady Ram errors led to a couple of runs to cut the lead to 3-2.
 
The Lady Rams earned a run in the bottom of the fourth on a Prachyl RBI single to left center for a 4-2 advantage.
 
Texas Wesleyan tacked on three more run in the sixth that started with a Lauren Davis double to left center.  Prachyl drove in a pair of with a double to left center, advancing to third on the throw. Tucker drove her in with a RBI groundout to cap the inning bouncing out to a 7-2 cushion.
 
The Rams went three up, three down in the top of the seventh to close out the game with a 7-2 win. Marlett (7-9) picked up the win after working through four innings in relief. She did not allow a run, gave up three hits, walked three, and struck out three.
 
Prachyl went 3 for 4 with three RBI. Gunter went 2 for 4 with two RBI in the win. Davis went 2 for 2 with two runs scored for the Lady Rams.
 
Texas Wesleyan will take stay home to host Mid-America Christian University on Saturday, April 25 in a double header starting at 12:00 pm at Sycamore Park.
