FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (7-9, 2-5 SAC) took a 91-60 loss to #21 Wayland Baptist University (11-4, 6-1 SAC) at the Sid Richardson Center on Thursday.

The Lady Rams came out and matched the intensity of the 21 st ranked Flying Queens, whose fast-paced offensive scheme is a big reason they entered the game with a 5-1 conference record.
Courtney Chargois opened up scoring with a mid-range jump shot.
Falesha Fuller kept the Rams in front with cut-and-drive layup to make a 6-5 game. Texas Wesleyan did a great job of keeping up with the agile Flying Queens and
Katelynn Threats put an and-one three point play together to tie the game at 13-13 with 1:51 left in the opening frame. WBU got what they wanted on the offensive end late in the quarter and built a quick 18-13 lead before the quarter ended.

Wayland showed their deep bench and a Shayla Monreal three-pointer took a 5-0 rally midway through the second quarter to jump out to a 27-16 lead. The Lady Rams grew a little fatigued as the Flying Queens kept a fresh five out on the court and ended the half up 42-26.

The Flying Queens held the Lady Rams to only 39 percent shooting from the field in the first half. Wayland did a good job of keeping the Rams off balance defensively, shooting 54 percent from the field.

Texas Wesleyan found a decent rhythm in the second half, but could not make any strides on the defensive end as the Flying Queens kept hitting from all over the court. WBU enjoyed a 71-49 lead after three.

The Lady Rams tried to keep the game from getting too out of hand, as Threats knocked down a jumper to keep it under triple digits at 79-52. Threats and the Lady Rams kept playing hard, but dropped the game 91-60.

Texas Wesleyan shot 44 percent from the field for the game, while the Flying Queens maintained a frothy 54 percent. Rebounds were 37-30 in favor of Wayland Baptist. A lot of points were scored in the lane as both teams relied heavily on forcing the ball inside, and Wayland held the points in the paint edge, 48-36. WBU led by as many as 33 points (2:57 in the fourth quarter).

Threats led the Rams with 23 points in 33 minutes, tacking on seven rebounds and a pair of steals.
Leila Jdily-Ezzad put up 10 points and four assists, going 5-7 from the field. Cox tallied six points and seven boards in the game.

The Lady Rams will travel to Shawnee, OK to take on St. Gregory's University on Saturday, January 23 starting at 3:00 pm CST.Â
