SHAWNEE, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (7-10, 2-6 SAC) lost a 66-46 game to St. Gregory's University (6-11, 3-5 SAC) at W.P. Wood Field House on Saturday.
Â
The Cavaliers bounced out to an 8-4 lead to start the game, mostly due to a pair of three pointers that found their way into the net. A lot of defense on both sides dominated the ball game as the two teams went a fairly long stretch of game time without scoring.
Taylor Hooks finally broke the scoring silence with a jumper, and
Falesha Fuller tied the game on a two-point shot to make it 8-8. St. Gregory's fired back with a Kylee Tatum three pointer before the quarter ended make it an 11-8 game.
Â
The Cavs forced the issue into the second quarter, taking a 10-2 run to gain some breathing room at 18-10 three minutes in. TWU went on a 4-0 burst capped by a
Taylor Hooks jumper in the paint to cut the lead to 18-14. The Cavs kept shooting, and although
Alycia Louallen hit a triple before halftime the Rams trailed 29-23.
Â
The Cavaliers quickly built a double-digit in the third quarter, as the Lady Rams just did not have enough in the tank to change momentum on the road. The Lady Rams still plagued by injury, could not fire on all cylinders. Texas Wesleyan posted a 5-0 run with a Louallen jump shot for two followed by tear drop from downtown to make it a 40-34 game. The Cavs responded, and in three minutes built a 16-point, 52-36 lead by the end of the third.
Â
St. Gregory's kept adding to their lead in the last 10 minutes, and ran to a 66-46 win. Wesleyan shot just 29 percent from the field for the game, while their opponent shot 46 percent. The Cavs won the rebound battle 41-36. Â Â
Â
Threats led the Lady Rams charge with 10 points and seven boards. Hooks had 10 points, four assists, and three steals in the contest.
Falesha Fuller took down nine points and six rebounds for the Rams. Â
Â
Texas Wesleyan will take a day off and play Arlington Baptist University on Monday, January 25 starting at 5:00 pm in Arlington, TX.
