IRVING, TX: The 12th ranked Texas Wesleyan University women's golf team placed 10th at the Dallas Baptist Women's Classic at the Golf Club of Dallas on Tuesday.
Dallas Baptist held off the field of 16 contenders with a final round of 293 Tuesday morning. The Patriots were 1-under par as a team in round one. They rode that performance to a +5 finish through 36 holes, 16 shots better than second place Tarleton State.
The Rams turned in an impressive round of 303 in the afternoon round on Monday, but closed out with a round of 320 on Saturday to finish 10th at 944 for the tournament.
DBU's Ann Parmerter had no trouble with the 5,991 yard, par-72 course. She took the individual medalist position at 15-under par. Parmerter's worst score was a 69 in the opening round. She followed up with cards of 65 and 67 to run away with the title.
Alex Schies had a steady hand for the Rams. The junior from Mansfield, TX, shot 77, 71, 75 to finish in a tie for 11th amongst the 88 individuals at +7.
Trudy Allen shot a round of 79 on Tuesday to finish 46th at 238 overall.
Maisy Turner shot an even 80 in all three rounds to tie for 48th, two shots behind Turner.
Elena Sinde Romero and
Jacinda Chan finished 60th and 75th respectively.
The Rams will return to action October 17-18, when they participate in Oklahoma City University's Susie Maxwell Berning Classic at Lincoln Park in Oklahoma City.
Ramblings
- Schies' second round was the 8th sub-par round in the young history of the program. Schies owns six of those rounds including two at the DBU Women's Classic last year.
- The Rams' second round 303 matched the 7th best round in program history.
- The Rams tied for 9th at this tournament last year, while Schies tied for 5th at -3.
- The 10th place finish snapped a streak of five consecutive top-5 finishes. The Lady Rams have posted top-10 finishes in each of their last ten tournaments.
