WAXAHACHIE, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men's soccer team (5-8-1, 2-2-1 SAC) battled to a 2-2 draw at Southwestern Assemblies of God University (8-4-2, 0-4-1 SAC) on Wednesday.
The Lions got on the board first when Danny Castro played a long forward pass from deep in the backfield that found a streaking Bryan Callejas in the 34th minute.
SAGU outshot the Rams 7-6 in the first half and led 1-0 at the break.
In the 63rd minute
Uriel Pacheco ripped a shot from inside the box that SAGU's Juan Solis saved but could not hold.
Brandon Head collected the rebound and tied the game with his 4th goal of the season.
The Lions took the momentum right back when Isai Velasquez-Bonilla pushed the score to 2-1 less than four minutes later.
In the 75th minute,
Anthony Atilola knotted the game 2-2 with an assist from
Ojuok Otieno.
Through regulation, the Rams led 17-13 in shots while the Lions had a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
Both teams had opportunities to score in overtime. The Lions narrowly missed ending the game when Velasquez-Bonilla found himself alone at the top of the box in the 109th minute, but his shot sailed high and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
For the game, the Rams outshot the Lions 25-18. The Lions held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks. The Rams were whistled for 14 fouls compared to 13 infractions for the Lions.
Marko Jovanovic (5-7-1) made six saves for the Rams, while Solis made five stops for the Lions.
The Rams will return to action on Tuesday, October 18, when they host the University of Science & Arts. That game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start at Martin Field.

- The Rams lead the all-time series with SAGU 14-1-2, while they are now 16-14-3 all-time in SAC play. USAO leads Texas Wesleyan 7-2-1 all-time.
- This was Texas Wesleyan's first overtime game of the season and the program's firs draw since a 2-2 tie against Mid-America Christian on October 6, last season.
