Rams Record Run Hits Eight

WAXAHACHIE, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women's soccer team (8-4, 5-0 SAC) stretched its current winning streak to a school-record eight consecutive games with a 3-1 decision at Southwestern Assemblies of God University (7-7, 1-4 SAC) on Wednesday.

The victory set a new school record for consecutive wins while matching the school's record of eight consecutive games without a loss.  Both the 2011 and 2012 teams won seven consecutive games while the 2012 squad had a stretch of eight consecutive games without a loss.

The Rams' current streak has the team sitting atop the Sooner Athletic Conference standings with an unblemished 5-0 mark.  During the run, Texas Wesleyan has outscored its opponents 31-5 while recording four shutouts.

On Wednesday, Drea Molina netted her 9th goal of the season just 4:30 into the contest.  The lead was short-lived however as Rachel Freed threaded a pass to Nadine Jaimes six minutes later.  Jaimes put her conference-best 16th goal in the books to level the match 1-1.

In the 59th minute, Cat Smith played a corner kick that found Hana Diaz who knocked the ball out to Mattie Morris for a go-ahead goal.

Another Smith corner kick led to a strike from Diaz that put the game away at 3-1 in the 87th minute.

The game was very tight statistically.  The Lady Rams outshot the Lions 22-18 and led 4-3 in corner kicks.  Nikki Lockwood (7-2) made five saves in the victory while Kathleen Espinosa did the same in the loss.

The Rams will return to action on Tuesday, October 18, when they host the University of Science & Arts.  That game is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start at Martin Field.
