Lady Rams Remain Unbeaten in SAC

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women's' soccer team (8-4-1, 5-0-1 SAC) remained unbeaten in Sooner Athletic Conference play after battling the University of Science & Arts (OK) (8-6-1, 3-2-1 SAC) to a 1-1 draw after two overtime periods at Martin Field on Tuesday.

The draw did end Texas Wesleyan's school-record winning streak at eight consecutive games.  However, the Rams extended their unbeaten streak to a school-record nine games.

Drea Molina got the Rams started when she netted her 10th goal of the season on Texas Wesleyan's first shot attempt 8:05 into the game.  Samantha Moore played a ball from near midfield on the right wing that put Molina into the box on the near left side.

The Drovers stayed on the attack, outshooting the Rams 13-4 in the first half, and their effort payed off in the 37th minute when Morgan Wilson scored the equalizer with an assist from Heidi Vargas.

From the first intermission on, the two teams each took nine shots, and both teams had quality chances.  USAO took advantage of their depth as the USAO bench turned in a combined 192 minutes, while Texas Wesleyan played with one sub who played 23 minutes.

Moore nearly put the Rams ahead in regulation, but her header in the 72nd minute glanced off the crossbar and went out.  Eight minutes later, USAO's Brandi Hutchison made a spectacular save on an attempt from Amber Leachman.

USAO's Thais Silva and Bianca Cardenas nearly ended things early in the first overtime, but Nikki Lockwood came up with a pair of saves in less than a minute.

For the game, the Drovers outshot the Rams 22-13 including an 8-5 count in shots on goal.  Both teams took three corner kicks.  Lockwood (7-2-1) made seven saves for the Rams, while Hutchison came up with four stops for the Drovers.

The Rams will return to action on Saturday, when they host Oklahoma City University in their final regular season home game.  That contest is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start and will be preceded by senior day activities.
