OKLAHOMA CITY, OK: The 12th ranked Texas Wesleyan University women's golf team turned in a school-record round of 292 in the finale of Oklahoma City University's Susie Maxwell Berning Classic at Lincoln Park on Tuesday. The Lady Rams finished second behind only 5th ranked Oklahoma City in the field of 11 teams.
Texas Wesleyan's record-breaking performance came on the strength of three rounds of even par from
Alex Schies,
Trudy Allen, and
Maisy Turner. Schies and Allen both had steady rounds with Schies posting two birdies against two bogeys and Allen notching three birdies and three bogeys'. Turner knocked in eagles on the par-4 No. 6 and par-5 No. 13 to get back to even.
Jacinda Chan contributed a round of 76 to the score.
No. 5 Oklahoma City claimed the win in a field that included five teams from the NAIA's top-25. The Lady Rams picked up five shots on the leaders on Tuesday, but Stars improved in each round shooting 301-298-297 to finish at +32 (896). Texas Wesleyan finished second at 928, 19 shots ahead of No. 17 Marian and No. 20 William Penn. Iowa Western Community College finished 5th, and No. 19 Wayland Baptist placed 6th.
Individually, Oklahoma City posted six of the top 12 scores in the tournament, with Anna Mikish leading all 67 individuals through the 6,010-yard par-72 course at +3 through 36 holes.
For the Rams, Turner finished in a tie for 4th at +9 (225). Schies placed 11th (232), and Allen finished tied for 15th (235).
Elena Sinde Romero tied for 22nd (241), and Chan finished 30th (247).
Jaci Trotter played as an individual medalist and finished 35th (251).
The Lady Rams will complete their fall schedule October 24-25, with a trip to Puerto Rico for the University of Illinois Springfield's Island Getaway at Rio Mar.
