FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's soccer team (6-4, 3-0 SAC) remained unblemished in Sooner Athletic Conference play following a 1-0 win over Mid-America Christian University (4-5-1, 1-2 SAC) at Martin Field on Tuesday. The game marked Texas Wesleyan's 6th consecutive victory, putting them just one win shy of matching the program's longest winning streak.
The Lady Rams controlled the contest from the start, but the Evangels settled in defensively and stifled Texas Wesleyan's attack.
The Rams got off nine shots in the first half including six on the frame, but the contest remained scoreless through the intermission.
In the 57th minute,
Samantha Moore nearly untied the game when she ripped a shot that glanced off the right post.
In the 77th minute,
Drea Molina played a corner kick into the box. The ball came back out to Molina who played it across the box from left to right.
Taylor Ross knocked the ball to the middle, where
Mattie Morris sent in the game-winner.
"It's always good to get a win," said head coach
Josh Gibbs. "We were not sharp, but I thought we still dominated the game throughout. Credit to MACU, they fought us hard and really made us grind out the win. I'm extremely proud of the work rate tonight. Finding a way to win conference games is key."
Nikki Lockwood (6-2) made five saves in her third shutout of the season. MACU's Madison Donihoo stopped eight of the nine shots on goal that she faced.
For the game, the Rams outshot the Evangels 25-7 and led 9-1 in corner kicks.
The Lady Rams will return to action on Saturday, when they travel to Bethany, OK, to take on Southwestern Christian University. That game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
