Lady Rams Tie School Record with 7th Consecutive Win

BETHANY, OK:  The Texas Wesleyan University women's soccer team (7-4, 4-0 SAC) matched a school record with its 7th consecutive victory, a 2-1 win at Southwestern Christian University (3-9, 1-3 SAC) on Saturday.

The Lady Rams' seven-game winning streak matches the school record set in 2011 and 2012.  All three occurrences have come under the watch of head coach Josh Gibbs as did the previous record of six in 2006.

During their current streak, the Rams have outscored their opponents 28-4 while recording four shutouts.

Saturday's game marked the second consecutive contest that the Lady Rams have netted a late game-winner as Taylor Ross untied a 1-1 game with a strike just 22 seconds before the end of regulation.

Gibbs was pleased with the win if not his team's performance.  "We were not very good today," he said.  "The only thing that got us through this one was pure grit and determination.  SCU deserves a lot of credit.  They fought incredibly hard.  I think they did enough to win, but our girls just have so much heart.  That's what got us the win today."

Kailene Allis got the Rams on the board quickly when she scored off an assist from Ross in the 6th minute, but SCU tied the game in the 13th minute when Simone Keating scored off a corner kick by Brianna Anderson.

The game appeared to be destined for overtime when Allis found Ross for the game winner at 89:38.

For the game, the Eagles outshot the Rams 14-13 and led 6-3 in corner kicks.  Fouls narrowly favored SCU at 12-10 while the Eagle's Kaylie Naumann made five saves and TXWES's Nikki Lockwood and Lauren Bond combined for four saves.

Bond (1-2), a sophomore transfer from Lubbock Christian University, picked up her first collegiate win as she worked a scoreless second half while making two saves.

Texas Wesleyan will return to action on Wednesday when they make the short trip down Hwy. 287 to Waxahachie where they will take on Southwestern Assemblies of God University.  That game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
