FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (2-1) took a 59-51 loss to Wiley College (4-0) at the Sid Richardson Center on Tuesday.
The Lady Rams and Wildcats took a measured start, matching one another for most of the quarter. Wiley took an 11-8 edge and extended that to an 18-10 lead to end the opening quarter.
The Wildcats pushed the lead to double digits in a pretty lop-sided second quarter. The Lady Rams lost the turnover battle 12-7 which led to a 14 point deficit.
Alycia Louallen and company chopped down the lead after dropping in a three pointer before halftime to make it a 32-24 game.
Texas Wesleyan used most of the third quarter to climb back into the ball game. The home team went on an 11-0 rally capped by a pair of
Bailey Broadnax free throws to cut the lead to 40-37. Wiley dug their heels in though, and maintained a 40-37 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Texas Wesleyan continued the fight in the fourth.
Katelynn Threats hit a jumper in the paint to give the Rams a 41-40 edge with 8:07 remaining in the game. The Wildcats responded quickly, taking a 47-44 advantage with four minutes left. The Wildcats continued to hit shots down the stretch to protect the lead, and the Lady Rams dropped the game 59-51.
Threats led the Lady Rams with a double-double behind 14 points and 15 rebounds.
Bailey Broadnax posted eight points and nine boards.
Falesha Fuller dropped in 10 points, while Louallen added nine points in the game.
The Lady Rams will take part in the SAGU Classic on Friday, November 18 and will play Texas College at 6:00 pm.
