WAXAHACHIE, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (3-1) made a late charge to take a 64-54 win over Texas College at the SAGU Classic on Friday.
 
The Steers grabbed a 13-2 lead to start the contest that spanned nearly the entire first quarter. Texas College extended the lead to 21-7 before the start of the second quarter.
 
The Lady Rams let out an 8-3 run capped on an Ashlie Bruner three-pointer to cut the lead to 24-18. The two teams went back and forth for the last five, with the Steers taking a 39-30 advantage at the break.
 
Falesha Fuller opened the second half with a jumper that jump started a 7-0 rally capped on an Alycia Louallen fast break layup to make it a 2-point game at 39-37. Texas College held off the charge and maintained a slight edge heading into the final quarter.
 
Texas Wesleyan finally tied the game at 52 apiece on a Katelynn Threats layup with 7:28 remaining. The Rams finished the game on a 12-2 run highlighted by a Bailey Broadnax lay-in to take a 64-54 win.
 
TXWES shot 39 percent from the field, while their opponent shot 28 percent. The Lady Rams won the rebound battle 53-46, and the assist battle 21-10.
 
Threats turned in another dominant performance with 19 points and 19 rebounds. Bruner tacked on nine points, seven assists, and six boards. Fuller turned in 11 points in the win. Broadnax went eight points and eight rebounds.  
 
Texas Wesleyan will take on the University of the Southwest tomorrow at 2:00 pm.
