FORT WORTH, TX: The 20th ranked Texas Wesleyan University men's basketball team moved to 7-0 on the season with a convincing108-63 win over Texas College (1-4) at the Sid Richardson Center on Monday.
The Rams dominated this game from start to finish. Texas Wesleyan scored the first six points of the game, and quickly jumped out to a 16-4 advantage. Midway through the first half,
Dion Rogers nailed a three, grabbed a rebound, and went end-to-end for a lightning quick five points that pushed the score to 27-12.
Texas Wesleyan was still pushing ahead at the break, leading 55-33.
The Rams continued to pour it on in the second half. The game was briefly delayed four minutes into the frame when an emphatic slam from
Najeal Young pushed the score to 64-35 and left the rim bent. Dunks from
Demarcus Emanuel and
Praneeth Udumalagala in the final two minutes provided the exclamation point, and the Rams won going away by a 45-point margin.
Texas Wesleyan shot 51% from the field while holding Texas College to 32%. The Rams were 10-of-24 (42%) from long range and held a commanding 52-34 edge on the glass. The Rams also forced 23 turnovers that led to 27 points.
The blowout afforded Head Coach
Brennen Shingleton the opportunity to give significant minutes to 12 players. The Texas Wesleyan bench responded with 60 points on the night led by
Ryan Harris' game-high 33.
Harris was 10-of-16 from the field, 6-for-8 from three-point range, and 7-for-8 at the foul line.
Najeal Young finished with 23 points and seven rebounds.
Dion Rogers and
Jeremy Crane each contributed 13 points.
Trevon Jeffery filled his stat line with seven points, 11 rebounds, and five assists.
The Steers were led by Nathaniel Francis' 13 points.
The Rams will return to action on Monday, November 28, when they host Wiley College (5-1). That game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start in the Sid Richardson Center.
