FORT WORTH, TX: The 20th ranked Texas Wesleyan University men's basketball team (2-0) ran away with an easy 99-70 win over Southwestern Adventist University (0-2) at the Sid Richardson Center on Thursday.
The Rams led wire-to-wire and never allowed the Knights to threaten in the contest.
Peyton Prudhomme gave the Rams a double-digit advantage with back-to-back three's that pushed the score to 28-16. Texas Wesleyan led by as many as 17 (39-22) in the first half on their way to a 44-31 advantage at the break.
Najeal Young put up a double-double in the first half with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Prudhomme tossed in four triples for 12 first-half points.
Texas Wesleyan opened the second-half on a tear. A three from
Dion Rogers capped a 14-2 run that brought the score to 60-36. The lead swelled to as many as 30 (89-59) after another trey from Rogers, and the Rams were in cruise control to the 99-70 finish.
Rogers followed up an 18-point performance in the season-opener with a career-high 30 points on Thursday. The senior guard went 11-for-22 from the field and 3-for-8 from distance while adding 7 rebounds and 4 assists to his line.
Rogers paced five Rams in double-figure scoring. Young finished with 13 points and 14 rebounds in 24 minutes on the floor.
Ryan Harris contributed 18 points. Prudhomme added 12, and
Naiel Smith scored 11 points.
For the game, the Rams shot 46.8% from the field and 38.7% from long range. Once again, Texas Wesleyan dominated the glass to the tune of a 48-39 advantage and a 26-10 edge in second chance points.
JaCoby Hardin-Crawford led the Knights with 27 points on 9-of-21 shooting. Travis Gagau scored 19 points, and Kevin Squarzon finished with 12.
The Rams will return to action on Tuesday, November 8, when they travel to Austin, TX, to take on Huston-Tillotson University. That game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start.
