FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (5-3, 1-1 SAC) ran past Southwestern Assemblies of God University (6-3, 0-1 SAC) in a 72-56 win at the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday.

The Lady Rams forced the Lady Lions into 19 turnovers, had 11 steals, and despite going 0-7 from the three-point line, shot 52 percent from the field to get their first conference win.

Falesha Fuller hit a mid-range jumper to cap an 8-3 drive to open the game that game the Rams an early edge.
Lorian Benjamin helped extend the lead to five with a layup to make it a 17-12 game. SAGU took a timeout before
Alycia Louallen picked off a pass that led to a
Bailey Broadnax lay-in for a 21-12 lead. The Lions would cut the lead to 21-17 before the end of the quarter, capped by a Lexi Rich three-pointer before the first quarter came to an end.

The Lady Rams kept a decent lead the opening minutes of the second quarter, working up to an 11-point, 35-24 advantage after an
Ashley Washington bucket with just under four minutes on the clock. Again, the Lady Lions found a way to hang around and cut the lead to 37-32 before the break.

SAGU opened the second half with a Kayla Blise three-pointer, cutting the lead to 37-35. That sparked a 6-0 rally to take a 41-39 lead and hungry for more. The two teams took turns tying the game before a Laken Ward free throw gave the Lions a 46-43 edge. Texas Wesleyan responded with 10-0 drumming over the last four minutes of the quarter, capped by another Washington fast break layup to make it a 53-46 game.

The Lady Rams hit on all cylinders in the fourth quarter and never let up. TXWES dominated both ends of the court and built up a 66-50 lead due in part by an 8-0 run that ate up over four minutes of game time. The gap grew as a big as 20 points for the Rams on the way to a 72-56 win.

Broadnax led all players with 16 points while adding eight rebounds in the effort. Fuller poured in 14 for the Lady Rams. Bruner notched a double-double behind 10 points, 12 assists. Â Benjamin had a break out game with 11 points, five steals, four boards and three assists in 21 minutes on the court.

Threats finished with 10 points and nine rebounds in the win. The forward from Fort Worth now has 1,024 career points to her name and has moved up to 10th all-time in school history. Threats has already passed former teammate Kayla McCray (1,003 points, 2011-14) who is ranked 13th, and currently sits behind Tracy Wiedeman (1,048, 1977-81) on the list.
