WICHITA FALLS, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (7-4) dropped an 81-59 contest to NCAA DII Midwestern State University (3-7) at D.L. Ligon Coliseum on Saturday.

The Lady Rams were outshot from the behind the arc 52 percent to 20 percent, yielding the lopsided score. Â

The Mustangs led out with a pair of three-pointers to start the game before
Lorian Benjamin swiped the ball and dished it to
Bailey Broadnax for a fast break layup to draw even.
Katelynn Threats did the same with a layup to take an 8-7 lead. MSU sprinted out to a 15-8 advantage after an 8-0 rally. TXWES chopped the lead down to an 18-14 game on a
Falesha Fuller bucket before the quarter expired.

Ashlie Bruner opened the second quarter with a layup, but a steady pelting of triples from the Mustangs resulted in a 15-point advantage at 33-18. Threats put in a jumper to make it a 40-29 deficit at the break.

Midwestern State added to their lead to start the third quarter, but the Lady Rams jolted to life with a 7-0 rally capped on a Threats splash in the paint to make it a 47-38 game. Bruner nailed a pair of free throws to cut the lead to seven. The Mustangs responded with a 6-0 run to end the third, jumping back out to a double digit lead.

The Mustangs extended that run into the fourth quarter to make it a 20-point, 65-45 lead. The Rams kept fighting as
Ashley Washington sank one from downtown midway through the final quarter, while Bruner got three points the old fashioned way, but Midwestern State maintained their lead on the way to an 81-59 finish.

Threats poured in 23 points going 10-14 from the floor. Bruner tallied 11 points, six assists, four steals, and five rebounds in the game.

The Lady Rams will come back home to play the first home game of 2017 on Tuesday, January 3 versus Crowley's Ridge College starting at 1:00 pm at the Sid Richardson Center.
