Think Pink Day Saturday in the SRC

FORT WORTH, TX:  Saturday, February 13 is Cancer Awareness Day at the Sid Richardson Center as the Texas Wesleyan University men and women's basketball teams host Bacone College.  The teams will join college basketball teams throughout the country to raise awareness and funds for cancer research.

The Lady Rams will honor Cheryl Lewis and Samantha Morrow during their game (3:00 p.m. tip-off).  Funds that have been raised and will be collected at the game will be donated to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund in memory of Lewis and in honor of Morrow.

Samantha Morrow played women's basketball for Texas Wesleyan from 1979-81, helping the team to 26 wins.  She went on to become a well-known basketball coach in the State of Texas.  As a high school and college head coach she has amassed more than 500 career victories and won four State Championships.  Coach Morrow is currently nearing the end of her breast cancer treatment and is a strong supporter of the cancer awareness efforts and the search for a cure.

Cheryl Lewis is the wife of Texas Wesleyan Vice President for Advancement Jim Lewis.  Her battle with cancer ended in just three weeks ago.  Born in Russellville, AR, in 1953, she lived a life characterized by exemplary service, uncommon fortitude and extraordinary faith.

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund was founded in 2007, from the vision of the organization's namesake, Kay Yow, former North Carolina State University head women's basketball coach two years prior to her passing in 2009 after her third bout with the disease.  Through events, fundraising and partnerships, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund supports research, provides grants, and drives inspiration in the fight against women's cancers.
