Late Rally Sinks Rams, 4-3

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (6-4) suffered a 4-3 loss in the finale of a 5-game series with Avila University (2-7) at The Ballpark in Grand Prairie on Monday.  The Rams took the series three games to two.

Texas Wesleyan built a 2-0 lead with an RBI single from Dusteyn Suttle in the second and single from Chandler Schoelkopf followed by a pair of wild pitches in the fifth.

Dusty Cloud was solid through the first four innings on the mound for the Rams.  Avery Sullivan came on in relief with two outs in the fifth and left the bases loaded.  The Eagles came back in the sixth and loaded the bases with a single and two walks.  Avila got on the board when Danny Kralicek was hit by a pitch and then tied the game when the next batter (Scott Drinkwater) was hit as well.

Jonathan Bravo doubled in the sixth and scored the go ahead run on a single from Suttle, but the Eagles got three straight singles from Anthony Biondo, Trevor Raymond and Chase Watt in the seventh.  Two batters later a Texas Wesleyan defensive miscue allowed the winning run to cross the plate.

Cloud received no decision after allowing no runs on four hits in 4.2 innings pitched.  Wade Regas (1-2) took the loss after allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits in 1.1 innings.

For Avila, E.J. Merlo (1-0) picked up the win with 1.1 innings of relief work.  He allowed a run on two hits.  Chase Cunningham worked the seventh for his second save of the season.

Casey Moses and Dusteyn Suttle both went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Rams.

The Rams will return to action at The Ballpark in Grand Prairie on Tuesday when they host McMurry University.  That game is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. start.
