FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (8-17, 3-12 SAC) took a hard fought 67-60 loss to St. Gregory's University (8-16, 5-10 SAC) at the Sid Richardson Center on Thursday.

The Cavaliers jumped out to 9-2 lead to start the game firing from behind the arc early. Texas Wesleyan slowly battled back though, and a Katelyn Threats layup capped an 11-1 rally to take a 17-13 advantage to the end of the quarter.

The Lady Rams continued with momentum into the second quarter, running the lead up to six at 25-19 on a Leila Jdily- Ezzad midway through. The Cavs kept shooting and made a run to tie the game at 31-31 with a Kelsie Howgard shot from behind the arc heading into halftime.

The Lady Rams opened the second half with an 11-6 capped by a
Katelynn Threats lay-in to make it a 46-37 game. Once again, the Cavaliers pressed the issue and the lead diminished before the buzzer sounded. St. Gregory's ended the quarter on a 5-0 rally capped by a Denisha Lundy layup to make it a 48-45.

The Cavs opened the final frame on a 9-2 rally to regain a 53-48 lead on a Courtney Leach jumper with 6:23 minutes remaining. The Lady Rams could not make any headway and had to foul to extend the game, but to no avail, dropping the game 67-60. Â

SGU shot 51 percent from the field, while TWU shot 40 percent. The Lady Rams out-rebounded their opponent 33-31, and also posted 21 assists to the Cavs 12.

Threats led Wesleyan with 26 points, adding seven boards, four assists, and a pair of steals.
Chervelle Cox posted eight points and 12 rebounds.
Alycia Louallen tacked on nine points. Jdily-Ezzad led all players with 10 assists to go along with seven points.

The Lady Rams will make the short drive to Waxahachie, TX to take on Southwestern Assemblies of God University on Saturday, February 20 starting at 3:00 pm.
