PLAINVIEW, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (8-20, 3-15 SAC) dropped the regular season finale in a 78-30 game against Wayland Baptist University (22-4, 17-1 SAC) on Saturday.

The Pioneers outshot the Rams 45 percent to 26 percent from the field on the way to a lop-sided win. Wesleyan also only hit 4 of 14 from the free throw line and was out rebounded 53-35 to make a big difference on the scoreboard.

The conference leading Pioneers asserted their dominance early, using a 14-0 rally to jump out to a 16-2 advantage.
Lasheena Trice broke the run with a shot from behind the arc, but Wayland ended the quarter up 19-5.

Angela Nguyen hit a triple to start the second stanza to make it a 21-8 game, but again the overwhelming WBU defense limited the Lady Rams chances and took a 38-13 lead into halftime.

It was much of the same in the second half, as Wayland Baptist held strong, double-digit grip on the contest. The Pioneers led by as many as 30 at 47-17, and although the Lady Rams cut into the lead with a
Leila Jdily-Ezzad jumper in the lane to make it 54-32 game, it was well into the fourth quarter. Wayland coasted to a 57-32 win. With the win, the Pioneers sealed the regular season championship.

Chervelle Cox led the team with a double-double behind 12 points and 10 boards. Trice added seven points and four rebounds.
Alycia Louallen tacked on seven points.

The Lady Rams finish the regular season and will await a time to play St. Gregory's University on Wednesday, March 2 for the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament hosted by SAGU. Â
