Rams Split Twin Bill with Bulldogs

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (1-2) split a doubleheader with Jarvis Christian College (2-1) at Sycamore Park on Saturday.  The Rams took game one 10-1, but fell 9-3 in game two.

In game one, the Rams scored first with a sacrifice fly from Dylan Measells in the first inning.  After working a perfect first inning, Ricky Hull worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the second to preserve the one-run lead.

In the bottom of the third Casey Moses singled, and Blake Seaton ripped an RBI triple to centerfield.  Measells followed with a base hit, and the Rams led 3-0.

The Rams tacked on with a two-out RBI single from Alex Gudac in the fourth.  The Bulldogs made a pitching change, and Moses welcomed the new hurler with an RBI double down the right field line.  A first and third double-steal gave the Rams three runs in the inning (all with two out) and a 5-0 lead.

The Bulldogs turned a leadoff double in the fifth into a run with the aid of two wild pitches.  Texas Wesleyan exploded for four more runs in the sixth.  That rally was highlighted by a two-run triple from Moses and an RBI single from Seaton.

Hull (1-0) earned the win after striking out 8 in 4.2 innings.  He allowed 1 run on 3 hits. Tyler Cobb (0-1) took the loss after allowing 5 runs, 4 earned, on seven hits in 3.2 innings.

The top of the order for the Rams (Gudac, Moses, Seaton) combined to go 9-for-12 with a 2B, 2 3B's, 6 RBI and 7 runs scored.  That included a 4-for-4 performance from Moses who was a homerun short of the cycle with 3 RBI, and 4 runs scored.

In game two, Jarvis built a 6-0 lead with a run in the first, three in the second and two in the third.

The Rams got back in the game when a Bulldog error opened the door to a three-run frame in the fifth inning.  With two outs in the inning, Gudac delivered an RBI single and Moses followed with a two-run safety.

Jarvis squashed the comeback with a three-run inning of their own in the top of the sixth.

Luke Thornton (1-0) allowed 3 unearned runs on 6 hits in 6 innings pitched to earn the win.  Stephen Yancey (0-1) took the loss after allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on six hits in 2 innings of work.

Blake Seaton was 2-for-4 at the plate in the loss.

The Rams will return to action on Tuesday when they host Texas College at The Ballpark in Grand Prairie.  Game one of that doubleheader is scheduled for a1:30 p.m. start.
