GRAND PRAIRIE, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (3-2) swept a doubleheader against Texas College (0-2) at The Ballpark in Grand Prairie on Tuesday. The Rams won with scores of 12-2 and 5-2.
In game one, the Rams opened things up in the second inning, sending 10 men to the plate and scoring six runs on five hits.
Jake Davis and
Erick Quesada got things started with back-to-back singles.
Garrett Crook blasted a two-run triple to left-center. With two outs,
Casey Moses kept the rally alive with his second triple of the young season.
The Steers responded in the third with a sac fly from Juan Mesa and an RBI single from Marques Irving.
Davis singled in the fifth and scored on a two-out RBI single from
Jonathan Bravo. The next batter was Crook, and the junior catcher drove his second triple of the game into the gap in left-center.
The hits kept coming in the sixth. Texas Wesleyan loaded the bases with one out, and Quesada delivered a school record tying fourth triple of the game to clear the bases. Quesada then scored on a wild pitch to push the score to 12-2.
The Rams outhit the Steers 14-5 in the game.

Garrett Crook all had multiple hits. Davis was 3-for-3 with 3 runs scored. Quesada, and Crook each drove in 3 runs.
Alex Lopez (1-0) earned the win after allowing 2 unearned runs on 4 hits. He struck out 7 and walked only 1 in 5 innings of work. Carlos Cordero (0-1) took the loss after surrendering 8 runs (5 earned) on 11 hits in 5 innings pitched.
In game two, the Rams got on the board in the first inning, when
Alex Gudac led off with a double and scored on a ground ball from Quesada.
James Ziegler doubled and scored in the fourth inning to make it 2-0.
In the fifth, the Rams got a leadoff double from Moses, singles from Seaton and Measells, and the fifth triple of the day from Ziegler. All of that added up to three runs and a 5-0 advantage.
The Steers got on the board in the sixth with a two-out RBI single from Mesa, and added a two-out RBI single from Zakre Miller in the seventh.
Stephen Yancey (1-1) earned the win after tossing four shutout innings. He allowed just two hits and struck out three while walking none.
Avery Sullivan recorded the final out to nail down his first save of the season.
David Ortiz (0-1) took the loss after allowing five runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings.
Moses went 3-for-4 with 3 2B's and a run scored in game two. Ziegler was 2-for-2 with a 2B and a 3B.
The Rams will return to action this weekend with a 4-game series against Avila University. The series opens with a doubleheader at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Saturday and Sunday's games will be played at Sycamore Park. Sunday's finale will be played at The Ballpark in Grand Prairie.
Ramblings
- The Rams have racked up eight triples in the first five games of the season. Last season they collected their 8th triple in their 21st game on their way to totaling 14 for the season. The school record is 23 triples in a single season (2005).
- Four triples in game one tied the school record set in 2006 against Tabor College. Crook's two triples also tied the school record (that feat has been accomplished five times before). The individual single season record is six held by Brandon Frazier (2006) and Brock Huggins (1998).
- Texas Wesleyan leads the all-time series with Texas College 21-6. The all-time series with Avila is tied 4-4.
