OKLAHOMA CITY, OK: The 22nd ranked Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (38-15) opened the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament with a 4-1 win over Bacone College (6-35) at Oklahoma City's Jim Wade Stadium on Friday.
The top-seeded Rams jumped out to a 3-0 lead with three runs in the third inning. A leadoff single from
Jake Davis was followed by a walk to
Dylan Measells, and a bunt single from
Garrett Crook that loaded the bases with no outs.
Ryan Adam drew a walk to push in a run.
Blake Seaton delivered an RBI single, and a third run scored on a double-play ball.
James Ziegler led off the fourth with a double and scored on a single from
Erick Quesada.
The Warriors got their only run of the ballgame with a two-out RBI single from Theron Segar in the bottom of the fourth.
Alex Lopez (4-0) picked up the win after allowing the lone run on five hits while striking out six in six innings pitched.
Avery Sullivan nailed down his second save of the season (11th of his career) tossing three scoreless innings. He allowed a hit and a walk while striking out three. Gage Staiger (2-7) allowed four runs on eight hits while striking out seven in 6.2 innings and was tagged with the loss.
The Rams put together a nine-hit attack. Quesada led the way, going 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. Davis was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
With the win, the Rams advance in the double-elimination tournament. They will play at 2:00 pm on Saturday against fourth seeded Wayland Baptist University who defeated fifth seeded Oklahoma City University 8-6 on Friday.
