OKLAHOMA CITY, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (27-29) just missed their second upset in as many days, falling in a 4-3 thriller to No. 3 St. Gregory's University (43-5) in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament Championship game at Ann Lacy Stadium on Saturday.
The Cavaliers took the lead in the bottom of the first with four hit inning capped by a Ramirez two RBI single down the left field line to gain a 4-0 advantage early in the game.
The Lady Rams fought back in the fourth, starting with a
Shelby Reddington walk.
Demi Dotson singled to left field before
Kayla Prachyl moved the runners into scoring position.
Dani West came up huge with a line drive off the center field fence for a three RBI inside the park home run to cut the lead to just one run at 4-3.
The Lady Rams turned a run away in the bottom of the sixth to keep the game at 4-3 with a
Lauren Davis laser precise throw to
Kaley Batchlear covering home for the out to head into the top of the seventh.
Texas Wesleyan got down to their last out before
Samantha Vasquez hit a double down the left field line, but was thrown out at third trying to stretch the play to end the game.
Lauren Wernet was lights out in 5.1 innings of relief work. She held the Cavs scoreless, allowing just three hits and striking out one.
West went 2 for 4 with three RBI. Dotson went 2 for 3. Prachyl and
Haley Neill each went 1 for 3.
The Lady Rams finish the season hitting .300 and pitching 3.38 ERA as a team.
Bailey Terry ends the season leading the team with a .385 batting average. West posted 34 steals on the season.
Brittany Rosenberry led the team in wins with 14 and ERA with 2.66.
