No. 22 Lakers Shutout Rams

BRIDGEVIEW, IL:  The Texas Wesleyan University men's soccer team (1-1) suffered a 2-0 loss at the hands of No. 22 Roosevelt University (3-0) at Toyota Field on Sunday.
 
The Rams battled the highly touted Lakers to a scoreless first half while holding RU to just six shots.
 
The game remained deadlocked until Evan Trychta's strike in the 71st minute.  Omar Guzman ensured that the Lakers would remain unbeaten with an insurance goal in the 85th minute.
 
Roosevelt outshot the Rams 17-7 in the second half and 23-10 for the game.  Shots on target were a closer 9-4, but Roosevelt's Jesus Velasco (3-0) made four saves to record his second shutout of the season.  Marko Jovanovic (1-1) made seven saves in the net for the Rams.
 
Texas Wesleyan will play their home opener on Friday, when they host Florida National University.  That game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start at Martin Field.
 
Ramblings
 
- This was the first ever meeting between the two programs, as is the case with each of the Rams' first three opponents this season.
 
- The Rams were shutout five times last season while recording five shutouts of their own.
