Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 21 Saints Nip Rams, 1-0

SAN ANTONIO, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women's soccer team (1-3) suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at No. 21 Our Lady of the Lake University (4-1) on Saturday.

The game, which was delayed by rain, proved to be a defensive slugfest.  Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Bond (a transfer from Lamar University) made her first career start and put together an outstanding effort to keep her team close in a game in which the Lady Rams were outshot 22-3.

Bond made six saves in the first half to preserve a 0-0 shutout at the intermission.

In the second half, Pauline Fields finally snuck the ball by Bond for what proved to be the game-winner.

In the 83rd minute Fields was whistled for a foul 22 yards out.  However, the ensuing free kick sailed high, and the Saints escaped with their fourth win of the season

Bond (0-1) finished with a career-high 12 saves.  OLLU's Gabriela Lopez needed only one save to nail down her first and her team's third shutout of the season.

The Rams will have little time to recuperate as they complete a tough stretch of three games in four days at the University of St. Thomas-Houston on Monday.  That game is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start.

Ramblings

- Bond's 12 saves doubled her previous total of six saves in six career games.

- The Saints now lead the all-time series with the Lady Rams 5-1 having taken each of the last four meetings.

- The Rams won their only previous meeting with St. Thomas-Houston 1-0 last season.
