FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men's soccer team (2-4) delivered a 3-0 shutout against Jarvis Christian College (0-5) at Martin Field on Friday.
The Rams dominated the ball in the first half, leading 12-3 in shots and 7-0 in corner kick opportunities. However, Jarvis' Luis Ledezma came up with five saves in the period to keep the game scoreless at the intermission.
Micah Day looked to get the Rams on the board in the 14th minute, but the goal was waved off by an offside call.
Ledezma made a terrific save on a
Uriel Pacheco shot from point blank range in the 25th minute. Texas Wesleyan's
Marko Jovanovic answered with a diving stop of his own in the 42nd minute to send the game to the half with no score.
In the second half,
Anthony Atilola, in his first game with the Rams, scored his first collegiate goal to break the tie. The team's battled on to the 80th minute when
Eder Falcon played a corner kick that found
Shaun Miltner's head for a 2-0 lead.
Micah Day put the game away when he converted a penalty kick following a Jarvis Christian handball in the 84th minute.
For the game, the Rams outshot the Bulldogs 24-4. TXWES also led 13-3 in shots on goal.
Ledezma made eight saves in the loss. Jovanovic made two stops to preserve his first shutout of the season.
The Rams will return to action on Monday, when they host Paul Quinn College. That game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start at Martin Field.

- This was Jovanovic's 5th career shutout.
- Atilola was playing his first collegiate game, making his first start, and tallied his first goal which proved to be the game-winner.
- This was the first meeting between Texas Wesleyan and Jarvis Christian on the soccer field. The same will be the cast against Paul Quinn on Monday.
