Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Lady Rams Down Drovers

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (12-2, 2-2 SAC) to a 3-0 (25-9, 25-18, 25-18) set from the University of Science & Arts (0-5, 0-3 SAC) at the Sid Richardson Center on Friday.

The Drovers played a good defensive game the entire match, but succumbed to a myriad of errors they could not overcome.

The first two points of the first set were oddly errors, foreshadowing perhaps what was coming. Carli Owens started the offense for the Rams on a big time kill for a 3-2 lead. Texas Wesleyan went on a 9-0 run capped by a Shelby Stinnett smash to take a commanding 14-3 lead. The Rams outscored the Drovers 10-6 from their in a 25-9 romp.

Wesleyan continued with another lopsided lead in the second set with an 8-1 lead on a Chalon Anderson ace. The Drovers cut the lead in half at 10-5, and then made a 7-3 run to come within one point at 13-12. USAO then took a 15-14 lead after three consecutive kills from Dana Stepankova, who accounted for 56 percent of the Drover offense in the match. The Lady Rams were not intimidated though, taking a 7-0 rally after another Anderson ace to sprint out to a 24-16 lead. A Drover error gave the Rams 25-18 second set.

The Lady Rams once again charged out to a 10-0 lead to start the third set after a kill from Kiersten Mebane. Wesleyan kept that sizeable lead until a few Lady Ram errors cut the lead to 15-12. Each team battled the rest of way, but after Sarah Benitez and Mebane hit on back-to-back kills to make it 23-17, Hayhurst finished off the match with a booming spike for a 25-18 win.

Hayhurst led the charge for the Lady Rams with eight kills. Stinnett posted six kills and 10 digs, and four service aces. Stinnett currently ranks fourth in the nation in aces. Morgan Reese added 12 digs, and seven assists. Sasha Robinson had 16 assists in the win.

The Lady Rams will take on the John Brown Golden Eagles on Friday, September 23 in Siloam Springs, AR. That match set for a 7:00 pm start.
