Lady Rams Overwhelm Warriors, 64-49

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (11-4, 4-1 SAC) zoomed past Bacone College (3-9, 1-4 SAC) in a 64-49 conference win at the Sid Richardson Center on Thursday.

The Lady Rams used an epic 28-point burst in the third quarter, and outshot their opponent 42 percent to 33 percent from the floor.

A slow Wesleyan start allowed the Warriors to grab an 8-4 lead before Alycia Louallen hit a three-pointer to try and start up the offense. TXWES narrowed the margin to 12-11 by the end of the first quarter.

The Rams enjoyed an 8-0 rally capped by a Katelynn Threats bucket and the foul to make it a 20-12 lead just over two minutes into the quarter. The Warriors fought back with a 9-2 rally that ran right into halftime, cutting the Ram lead to just one at 22-21.

Bacone College tied the game at 24 apiece to start what would turn into an impressive third quarter for the Lady Rams. Wesleyan took a 14-0 run capped on a Bailey Broadnax layup for a 42-28 advantage. The Rams seemed to run circles around Bacone, working the lead to 17 before ending the quarter with a 50-36 lead.

At the end of the third quarter, Katelynn Threats and Bailey Broadnax combined for 35 points and 19 rebounds while Bacone had just 36 points and 20 boards.

The offense never let up, keeping the Bacone at bay. Louallen knocked down a long jumper midway through the final quarter to keep a hefty 60-43 lead, and Broadnax got another easy layup to give Wesleyan their largest lead at 18 points. TXWES ran out the clock on the way to a 64-49 SAC win.

Ashlie Bruner finished with 11 assists, one shy of the school record and tied for third most in the school history. Broadnax led all players with 26 points on 13-18 from the field, adding 10 boards. Threats put up 19 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists in the win.

The Lady Rams will finish the week with a matchup featuring conference opponent John Brown University on Saturday, January 14. That game set for a 1:00pm tip-off.
