FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (11-5, 4-2 SAC) were edged out by John Brown University (11-6, 3-3 SAC) 62-58 at the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles went 12 of 31 for 38.7 percent from behind the arc, while the Lady Rams were very uncharacteristically out rebounded 33-29. In a game where Texas Wesleyan never secured a lead, the nine extra three-pointers made for good insurance for John Brown.

The Lady Rams fell behind to start as the Golden Eagles established a 14-2 lead in the first four minutes. The lead grew to 21-6 after JBU denied a few inside passes and converted on the other end.
Ashlie Bruner rushed the lane in the closing seconds of the quarter, finally breaking through the defense to make it a 23-10 game.

Bruner stepped into a triple to cut the lead to 25-10, but JBU pushed the lead back out to 16 points as the Rams seemed stuck in the third gear. Wesleyan tightened up the defense in the last five minutes, taking a 37-22 deficit to the break.

TXWES started to fan the flames with a 7-0 rally capped on a
Bailey Broadnax layup, cutting the lead to eight at 37-29. The Rams also forced turnovers on the first six JBU possessions on the defensive end.
Katelynn Threats followed that with a play on the floor to beat the defense, making it a 41-35 game with four minutes remaining. The Golden Eagles outscored the home team 8-5 to end the quarter with a 49-40 lead.

The Wesleyan offense got going with a
Falesha Fuller coast to coast, steal and score layup before Bruner did the same thing to make it 57-49 JBU with 3:41 left in the game. A pair of free throw shots got the Golden Eagles a 10-point advantage with two minutes remaining, but Bruner knocked down a shot from beyond the arc that sparked a furious rally.
Lorian Benjamin and Bruner got to the charity stripe to make it a four-point game, but the Rams ran out of time and took a 62-58 loss.

The Lady Rams out shot their opponent in every quarter except the first, shooting 43 percent from the field for the game. Wesleyan also outscored JBU 34-10 in the paint as most of the Golden Eagles shots came from the three point line.

Bruner led the Wesleyan with 16 points, adding four assists. Threats followed with 15 points six boards. Fuller finished with nine points and six steals.

The Lady Rams will travel to Plainview, TX for a conference meeting with Wayland Baptist University on Thursday, January 19 starting at 6:00pm.
