Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Rams Come Up Short at Central Christian

McPHERSON, KS:  The Texas Wesleyan University men's soccer team (2-8-1, 0-4-1 SAC) came up on the short end of a 3-1 score at Central Christian College (8-3-1, 1-3-1 SAC) on Thursday.

The game got started on the wrong foot when Juan Rey was shown a red card just over 19 minutes in, and the Rams played the remainder of the contest down a man.

All four goals were scored in the second half.  The Rams trailed 2-1 late in the contest when they moved everyone forward and were applying heavy pressure on the Tigers.  The attack-minded Rams produced several near misses before Jayke Maples scored on a quick counter attack to put the game away in the final minute.

The Tigers' Gabriel Flores got the scoring started in the 52nd minute.  In the 63rd minute, Micah Day collected a failed clearance and tied the game with his seventh goal of the season.

In the 76th minute, Omar Salgado assisted Joshua Taylor for what proved to be the game-winning goal.

In spite of being down a man for 71 minutes, the Rams matched Central Christian's 16 shots in the contest.  Texas Wesleyan also led 7-3 in corner kick opportunities.

The Rams will return to action on Saturday, when they travel to Shawnee, OK, to take on St. Gregory's University in SAC action.  That game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
